Hill Repeats are the Devil

Remember when I was complaining that I couldn’t open my hips?  I was stiff, unstretchable, and NOT an ambiturner for a good month.

I remembered this morning that the last hard workout I did that stiffened me up and cause that issue was hill repeats. Not gentle hill repeats by any means – the big hill in my neighborhood is very steep. As in, a 100 feet incline over .12 miles, steep. I can run up it, but the thought of cycling up it gives me shivers.

How did I remember that?  It started happening again this morning.

And what, pray-tell, was the last exercise I did before seeing this happen?

Hill repeats … yesterday. I went up that hill eight times, with an audience of stay at home moms looking out their windows, the trash guys for 3 of them, and some neighborhood walkers for 3 more of them (it was at 11 or so).  A few of them were even cheering me on!

Today, though, I’m pretty stiff again. I woke up with sore thighs and a sore bum, as expected. I didn’t expect it to clamp up my hips again! I noticed it in Yoga.

So here I am, sitting in my office chair with a tennis ball under my left cheek. Owie.

The good news? My calves aren’t sore AT ALL. I attribute this to coming home, washing up, and then sitting around in my compression sleeves for about two hours. Seriously, they’re good as new!
