Lululemon Outlet – Now in San Marcos!

About a week ago, I clued into a new Outlet opening in the San Marcos Premium Outlets by a sneaky post by one of the Austin lulu stores.. yup, you guessed it, a lululemon outlet!  So, naturally, I immediately made plans to go there as soon as I had some free time to see what it was all about. Luckily, Chicklit was interested in being a partner in crime on the endeavor, so we made the trek down to San Marcos on Sunday to check it out!

I went in really hoping they’d have some of the older stuff, which is what I’ve heard is available in the Vancouver outlet, but NOPE! This was pretty much a larger selection of what you see in the “We Made Too Much” section of their website. They also had a lot of items that are “straight to outlet” such as the very very see through In The Flow pants that are Frond and Yellow.

Now, with Sheer-Gate and all of the fallout that’s happened from it, I naturally had a TO-DO list before buying anything:

1. Try everything on.
2. Bend Over.
3. Wash anything alone that might bleed!

I’d say maybe 80% of the pants are see through. There are, however, the 20% that are not, including their Studio Pants that were for sale at around $75 (pretty good deal – original price is 115). I love my studio pants, but the colors there (teal, grey and beige, aka dune) didn’t really appeal to me.

In sheer selection: They had great stock of “The Under Pant” – which they deliberately marketed prior to sheer-gate that they were sheer and for under tunics (or to be worn with undies), as well as bright yellow and orange “In the Flow pants” which are basically Ebb and Flow pants that are shorter and see through.

They had a few really good finds though – a few cute tops, some cute shorts that aren’t lined (boo), running jackets, some rulu long sleeves (I had a few last year, they’re actually great but I wanted more colors than were available).

I got a new vinyasa scarf, a top that is long, and some headbands.

AND, the store was organized by size. I loved this!  The larger sizes have more selection, so that was kinda lame, but oh well. Sizes 2-6 were not bad but kind of the same stuff, but sizes 8-12 definitely had more selection. They had some additional running skirts and short sleeved shirts available.

The men’s section was not bad, but not great. They had man shorts at $19 but they run mostly in smaller sizes. Tons of jackets that would make great gifts at a decent price (like $75 instead of $120).

I’d go back! Maybe another visit will be in order soon, especially since I saw some nice chairs at the Pottery Barn outlet down the row…

Weekend Woes

I had a rough weekend. Well, actually my rough weekend began like on Friday at work. And if you REALLY want to mince roughness, it was a rough week since the Monday before that.

Work has been really incredibly busy, since a couple of my team members moved on – so I got stuck on a few programs that are a) in critical phases and b) mid-flight. That means a lot of catch up, and to my dismay, a LOT of math. I hate math. I’m lucky enough to have a lot of coworkers who are excellent at math, and I can bounce anything I need to off of them and the other professional finance people around me, but that doens’t stop other people from getting emotional about getting a high price thrown at them (Yes! you can do this, but it’ll cost you a meeeeelion dollars — I actually said that last week).

So, last week was stressful, and I looked forward to the weekend. I was stressed out, so decided to go on a run on Saturday to let go of some of my angst. I was juuuust on my way home, on the final stretch, when some guy in a Mercedes honked at me. Me, being tired and cranky, turned around and did the “what?” shrug (instead of moving on and just crossing like I normally would). Well, he pulled over and started yelling at me that I didn’t even look, I took too long, etc. I just turned around and walked away. I also started bawling because he scared the shit out of me, and a lady who was out front of a local restaurant came over, said she saw the whole thing, and that he was a jerk, and I thanked her for talking to me.  As I moved on with my day, I stayed upset. I wished I had done two things. a) said – No, buddy, I LOOKED, but your blinker was OFF. I am not a car whisperer and cannot tell by it’s body language where it was going. OR b), taken a picture of his license plate to submit a 311 for no blinker usage or harassment or something. I don’t know if any of that would have been taken seriously, but it’s a nice thought.

And I’ve been stuck on it ever since. I mean, totally fixated. I actually arrived into work amid all the crazy, and was happy to be there so I could finally be distracted.  So, I go to meetings and check into Facebook. I see my cousin, Tina, has posted a quote that applies:

So maybe jerkface in the car is an angry person. Or his girlfriend just dumped him. Or the drive through he just went through gave him a wrong order. Or he burned his tounge, whatever.  Maybe he just took it out on the first person he came across and that happened to be me. Or, maybe he’s just an angry little elf.  Can I just chock that up to having a run-in with an unhealthy person and move on already?

Either way, writing it out is therapeutic! I intended to do it yesterday while I was dwelling.. and then something I ate made me sick.

Maybe it just wasn’t my weekend.

It’s Spring! (2013)

Hooray! Spring!

Spring is my absolute FAVORITE time of the year.  It’s not bad in Texas, the weather is nice and all – but I definitely do miss my mid-Atlantic Spring.  Over here, we get maybe a month of pretty blooming trees and flowers if we’re lucky. Over there, however, it was a full three month season of glorious flowers, cherry blossoms, beautiful weather during the day (and nights cool enough that you could still sometimes light the fireplace), and .. well, pollen. haha. The pollen over there didn’t bug me, though.

Above: Tulips in Chapel Hill, and Cherry Blossom Trees in Alexandria, VA, 2012.

Alas! I feel like I’m waking up a bit today.  I’ve gotten a bit of spring cleaning on, gathered everything I needed to finish for our taxes, laundry, etc. I think how beautiful it is outside helps; we’ve had a few cloudy days this week.

I’ve been buried at work, too – some of my teammates left, which means the rest of the team has to pick up the slack. My days have been mostly work and less play for the last couple of weeks – but I have been trying on lulu items and taking pictures, so I MUST unload them on the blog soon!

So here’s hoping my next few posts are sooner rather than later.:)

V-D for the Marrieds

(all right.. I’ll stop with the V-D on Valentine’s Day jokes. It’s overdone, right?)

K and I had a fantastic Valentine’s Day.  I woke up early, and had to be at work by 7 (and therefore had to leave the house at 6:30 to give me coffee and computer boot-up time), and I hid four notes in places he’d be around all day:

- His computer
- The Pantry
- the Vitamin Shelf
- The fridge

Yes, I put a little envelope and note in the fridge. What?? I knew he’d hit the bread. And the peanut butter, which is what I put it on in the pantry.

Maybe about two hours into my day at work, he sent me a note thanking me for the notes. Yay! He found them all!

I came home to a shitstorm of Valentine’s Day. In a good way! Now, he usually does get me flowers and a card (even after he says every year that he won’t since its a Hallmark Holiday). There was a bouquet of roses on the table, the house was SPARKLING CLEAN (omgomgomg), and he was at the stove, putting together a seafood boil. y-u-m!

I walked back to our bedroom to change out of my work clothes, and found a few more items: brand new sheets, a rose on the pillow, and the sweetest card I’ve ever received.

So what have I done to deserve all of this? Well, I guess I’ve loved the man as best as I can. We both have our challenges, and we’re working through them together. Valentine’s may be a Hallmark Holiday, but it is lovely to see a celebration of so much love in the world. I suppose it helps that he was in Colorado for the first half of last week – distance makes the heart grow fonder and all that. I should send him away right before V-D every year! ;)

A Gem from my Neighborhood List Serv

Someone posted the question:

“I’m getting four chickens; how do you suggest I introduce them to my Goldendoodle? He loves to chase cats and squirrels.”

My favorite answer:

“On a bed of rice.”

HAH!

Seriously, though, knowing how my gentle, tame, snuffleupagus Golden Retriever goes NUTS after a sitting fowl, or even a fake owl, I have to agree with that sentiment. I mean, they’re bird dogs! :)

There are random chickens in our neighborhood; people keep them everywhere. They wander out during the day, and Griffin, with his ho-hum demeanor, perks RIGHT up. It’s the cutest.

Best wishes to those chickens!

Spring is Upon Us

It’s January 28th. We’ve seen some serious Spring-Like weather around here this month!  While it’s awesome to wear flip flops in January, it makes me fear for this summer.  I feel like it’s really premature, and I actually am finding myself get a smidge bit of jealousy when my friends from NC or VA snap photos of the snow they got this weekend.  It’s going to be HADES here in Central Texas come May, mark my words.

One thing that’s coming with the Spring-like weather? Spring cleaning! Spring planting! And we are getting ready to go down those paths.

As for Spring Cleaning – I’m starting to look around the house, realize we’ve been here for a year, and think we need to finish setting up!  The office, while definitely more set up than before, has a bit of clutter to clean up:

I’m seriously going to organize that this week. I need to go to ikea for some storage bins. My neatnick husband surprisingly doesn’t care about the clutter – he’s intending on giving half of this a new home when he gets an office, but seeing that he works from home….. not the best solution.

AND! We re-organized our garden this week:

Last year, we unintentionally had the tomatoes covering the peppers’ sunlight, so this year we’ve moved things around so they get their own dedicated space.  We’re also trying to figure out exactly where to put our vine plants as well; they might go into the back yard with some fencing built to keep the dogs out this year. I’m pretty sure Griffin and Chiclet ate our squash last year.

Ebb and Flow Crops – back!

So, last year’s batch of Ebb and Flow crops from lululemon were fantastic – and in writing this blog post I realized I never reviewed them – and they are FINALLY back! I got the product notification this morning, and bought a pair in inkwell right away. I’m excited about getting another pair of these! I “save” them for my rougher workouts all the time. Why?

An OOTD with the Ebb and Flows of 2012

- no muffin top. Seriously. Best crops ever to hide it!
- stretchy, stretchy, stretchy. They are SO forgiving.
- the wicking. Ohhh the wicking. It lifts sweat like none other!

Now. I do have some concerns. This release seem to have a longer crop length from what I understand, but hope not too long! I love crop lengths, not ankle lengths. The material might make up for it though. I also hear the Flare color is kind of see through. Lets hope inkwell and black aren’t! I’ve noted on a few posts here and there that they’ve been messing with their formulas – and we will be able to tell pretty easily if that’s the case.

Lucky Buddha

So as my readers know, we’ve struggled with having a child. For two years. TWO. YEARS. I guess here and there, I’ve looked into things that are more on the superstitious side (since I can be the superstitious type), and have read forums and blogs of people struggling with something similar.  One thing that comes up is there is frequently a good luck charm, or process, or something, that helps people break through barriers.

I vaguely remember some friends from the board talking about a Panda being a good luck charm, and they passed it around. This was yeeeaaars ago, way before I was remotely interested in reproducing – but that thought stayed in my head over the years. I vaguely remembered the panda thing was because of the fertility issues pandas see – which is part of the reason why they’re endangered species. I thought it was kind of a backwards logic, but it was charming nonetheless.

My local friends here, however, had their OWN good luck charm. Mr. Miyagi.

Secret Sauce

Mr. Miyagi has seen six ladies, and has resulted in 8 babies. Or so. Correct me if I’m wrong on that, ladies. 9?  He’s got a lucky belly and a lucky head that we’re supposed to rub. He sits at the person who needs the luck’s desk (or wherever they may be regularly), and they get knocked up. My lovely friends brought him over to me during lunch on Thursday, and he’s been sitting on my desk for a day and a half.

It’s like he’s watching me. He knows what’s going on in my head! Even though it’s a little freaky, it’s nice to have a companion on my desk. :) A few people have asked me “WTH is that??” and my standard answer is, “Oh… he’s a good luck charm.;)”  I know he’s not a Buddha, but he is a handsome fella.

So let’s hope we don’t break the streak here! He’s 6 for 6 so far, right? Maybe I can be Lucky 7?

More Sleep!

You know how they say the way you spend your first day of the year is how you spend the rest of the year?  Boy, I’m hoping that’s not true. What did I do all New Year’s Day? Sleep. Pout. Sleep.

So, the theme for 2013 apparently is:

I need more sleep.

“What makes you think that?”  You ask.

Well, there’s that whole New Year’s Day episode. And then, getting the flu that next Friday. So I slept that fever off for about a week. To the point where, last week I left work on Wednesday early because… I needed more sleep.

And then, I missed a half marathon (sob, whine, snort)… because I needed more sleep.

AND, I almost missed an Ops review this morning. Why? OH! I needed more sleep. I woke up 45 minutes before I had to be in the office (which is 15-20 minutes away) on a rainy day.

Here’s hoping the trend ends today, yo.  It’s the 15th!!  I’ve been sleeping for two weeks!
